Monument Valley

The monument valley is a region of the Colorado Plateau located along the Arizona-Utah states line.  Its most prominent feature is a cluster of vast sandstone buttes, the largest reaching 1,000 feet (300 m) above the valley floor. It is located with the Navajo Nation Reservation.

The elevation of the valley floor ranges from 5,000 to 6,000 feet (1,500 to 1,800 m) above sea level. The valley's vivid red color comes from iron oxide. The darker, blue-gray rocks in the valley get their color from manganese oxide.

The valley includes large stone structures including the famed "Eye of the Sun".

A panoramic view of the Monument Valley which is one of the most beautiful sites in the world in this short iPhone video.

  1. Someone commented that the second picture from the top is good enough for National Geographic. The place is so peaceful and beautiful like the earth was thousand years ago.
